Which markets in North Carolina lead the way when it comes to a surge in new homebuilding in 2020?

When looking at new starts for single-family homes in the state's urban areas, Burlington has seen the biggest jump, percentage wise, at 42%, although its total number of home starts is relatively small. Behind Burlington is Winston-Salem with a 40% increase.

But the Charlotte-Concord-Gastonia metropolitan statistical area dominates when it comes to total number of new home starts — at more than 13,000 so far this year, up 17% over 2019.

Meanwhile, the Raleigh area is only slightly above its pace from 2019 even as historically low-interest rates continue to put stress on the region's supply of new homes as demand shows no signs of slowing down. Also, the Durham-Chapel Hill area is slightly trailing its pace for new home starts from 2019.
